Librarians & the IB Extended Essay
- 4hr Masterclass

The IB Extended Essay is more than a summative assessment and its true value is much more than 3 extra points.  The EE is preparation for the academic skills and general mindset of university.  Librarians are well versed in the rigors of academics and can, if they so wish, have a positive influence on students’ grades and wellbeing.

This workshop draws from the new EE guide to explore what’s changed and what remains the same, such as… subtle shifts in the assessment criteria, the new focus on interdisciplinary essays, and a reboot for academic integrity in the light of AI.

In particular, we look at the various roles and responsibilities and explain an expanded role for the librarian, supporting not just students, but also supervisors and coordinators.

This workshop is 4hrs of solid content & activities, plus a Q & A for those that stay afterwards. We cover the topics below and so much more…

Essential skills for librarians:

  • Helping students connect their passion to a Research Question
  • Improving student support without exceeding recommended limits
  • How to give feedback that leads to better essays
  • IBs rules & recommendations for AI and managing mis-use
  • ‘Plagiarism Mentoring’ empowers students to fix their own mistakes when they do overuse AI, or copy & paste

Essential skills for students:
