Why do we need another group?

Until now there has been no organisation whose primary goal is the personal and professional development of international school librarians.  Atheneum is designed specifically to fill that gap.

 

Usually, we jigsaw together our own professional development from whatever is available in our region, or we pay hard earned cash for trainings from one of the large national library organisations, in the hope there will be something relevant to our international setting.  Instead, we need a professional learning community for people who are committed to ‘international school librarianship’ as a career.  People that live and work all over the world but have one thing in common, we’re library people. 

 

Who is Atheneum for?

What will Atheneum do?

Atheneum already produces plenty of expert content in the way of newsletters, podcasts, webinars and workshops.  As a group it publishes collaboratively so all members get even credit, and it feeds some of its content back into the wider library community for free.  Here are our current offerings…

Once a month – a provocative article for professional discussion within the group.  Great for developing new ideas and challenging how things are done.

 

Librarians in the Wild Podcast

Once a month – short & informative interviews with professionals around the world.  A pleasurable way to learn new techniques and what other librarians are doing.

 

Job-alike meetings

Once a month – virtual trouble shooting meeting.  Members submit issues for discussion and a schedule is published, then everyone comes prepared with advice, resources, and solutions.  The best way to get global guidance on your local issues.

 

Discount on workshops

15% discount on any workshops held by other Atheneum members.  Schools have tight budgets and might only authorize a single annual PD per person – buying a subscription ensures that your single investment supports you all year long.
